terms of service

these terms cover your use of passport. plain english, short — read them so you know what to expect from us, and what we expect from you.

1. what passport is

passport is a taste identity — a public profile built from the games, movies, series, anime, manga, books, and music you love. you collect what shaped you, mark your favorites (your stars), and share your passport with others.

2. eligibility

you need to be at least 13 to use passport. if you're under 18, you confirm a parent or legal guardian has agreed to these terms on your behalf.

3. accounts

you can sign in with google, discord, or apple, or with a magic link or one-time code sent to your email. you're responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity that happens under it.

4. your content

your library, stars, stashes, ratings, profile copy, and anything else you add to passport belong to you. by posting them, you grant passport a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and process this content as needed to run the service — for example on your public profile, in friends' feeds, or in shared comparisons. we don't claim ownership and we don't use your content for anything outside running passport. the license ends when you remove the content or delete your account.

5. public profiles

your passport at passportdex.com/[username] is public by default. library visibility is set in settings:

  • everyone — anyone with the link sees your full library.
  • friends — only mutuals (people you follow back) see the full library; followers see your passport surface only.
  • only me — your library is hidden; your passport surface stays public.

your passport surface — the profile header, your stars, and the visible covers — stays public regardless of library visibility. if you don't want something to be visible, don't put it there.

6. acceptable use

don't use passport for spam, harassment, hate speech, impersonation, sexually explicit or pornographic content, or anything illegal. don't scrape the site, abuse the api, or attempt to disrupt the service. be a decent neighbor. we may remove content that breaks these rules — and the works behind it — at our discretion. we don't host or surface this content.

7. usernames

passport reserves the right to reclaim usernames that are inactive, impersonate someone, are misleading, or violate these guidelines.

8. third-party data and integrations

media metadata — covers, titles, descriptions, credits — comes from igdb/twitch, tmdb, watchmode, anilist, myanimelist, musicbrainz, the cover art archive, apple music, the itunes search api, wikidata, google books, openlibrary, and hardcover. when you import a library from steam, letterboxd, anilist, or another connected platform, that data is fetched under each platform's terms. passport doesn't own this data and is grateful to the communities that maintain it.

9. copyright & takedown

passport respects copyright. covers and metadata come from the third-party sources listed above, but if you believe something on passport infringes your copyright, email support@passportdex.com with: the work involved, a link to the content, your contact details, and a statement that you're the rights holder or authorized to act for them. we'll review and remove infringing content, and we remove the accounts of repeat infringers.

10. availability & liability

passport is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. we don't guarantee uptime, uninterrupted service, or that your data will be preserved indefinitely.

to the fullest extent allowed by law, passport isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or service interruptions. if we're ever found liable for something, our total liability is capped at the greater of what you paid us in the past 12 months or us$50.

11. indemnification

if something you do on passport — the content you post, your misuse of the service, or your breach of these terms — leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the resulting costs, including reasonable legal fees. we'll tell you if this ever comes up.

12. termination

we can suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms. you can delete your account at any time from your settings — this removes your passport, library, and associated data.

13. changes

we may update these terms from time to time. when we do, we'll update the “last updated” date at the top. continued use of passport after a change means you accept the updated terms.

14. general

if any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. these terms are the whole agreement between you and passport about the service. you can't transfer your rights under them; we may transfer ours if passport changes hands (for example, an acquisition), and we'll let you know if that happens.
